Dokken - Discografia

Dokken fue una de las bandas norteamericanas de hard rock más exitosas de la década 80, que combinando la voz característica de Don Dokken y la energética y virtuosa guitarra de George Lynch, supieron crear canciones con intensos riffs como ‘Kiss Of Death’ y “power” baladas como ‘Alone Again’, que convirtieron a los discos del grupo en los más vendidos del estilo. Elepés como el “Tooth and Nail” y “Under Lock and Key” aún son considerados clásicos y aparecieron en el momento preciso, el auge del heavy era enorme y sus rimeros videos promocionales contaron con todo el apoyo de MTV.

La historia de Dokken comienza a finales de los 70 cuando Lynch y el baterista Mick Brown se juntaron con Don Dokken para formar The Boyz. En 1981 Don parte a Alemania y firma con Carerre Records, cambia el nombre del grupo a Dokken y graban su primer álbum llamado “Breaking The Chains” en 1983. El disco se hace bastante popular en Europa, pero no así en Estados Unidos. Después de un tour por Alemania, consiguen un contrato con Elektra Records y Jeff Pilson se integra como el primer bajista oficial de la banda. En 1984 editan “Tooth And Nail”, que se convierte en un suceso con los singles ‘Into The Fire’, ‘Just Got Lucky’ y la ya mencionada, ‘Alone Again’, vendiendo más de un millón de copias sólo en Estados Unidos. Después de salir a la gira con Scorpions, en 1985 graban el elepé “Under Lock And Key”, que logra un éxito similar al del disco anterior con temas como ‘In My Dreams’ e ‘It’s Not Love’. En 1987 la banda lanza el disco “Back For The Attack”, en el cual aparece el tema ‘Dream Warriors’ que figura en la película 3rd Nightmare on Elm Street (Pesadilla 3) y se convierte en poco tiempo en disco de platino. Para aquel tiempo Dokken se pasó una temporada haciendo gigantescas presentaciones junto a Van Halen en el marco del US Monsters of Rock. El álbum siguiente fue la compilación en vivo, “Beast From The East”, último disco de la banda antes del rompimiento de relaciones entre Don Dokken y Lynch, por diferencias musicales en 1988. Lynch quería demasiado poder en el grupo y llegó al punto de convertirse en una situación insoportable. Incluso a esas alturas del partido llegó a argumentar que no quería participar en una banda que tuviese el apellido del vocalista y que esto lo hacía sentirse desplazado.

Luego de disolverse, Don Dokken comienza su carrera como solista, editando con una super banda el álbum “Up From The Ashes”. Por su parte, Lynch crea su propia agrupación Lynch Mob. Milagrosamente en 1995 Dokken se vuelve a reunir por obra y magia del famoso John Kalodner y firman con Columbia Records para publicar “Dysfunctional”, que no logra tener mucha repercusión y a la larga se entendería casi como un disco solista de Don Dokken. Al año siguiente con CMC Records graban el disco acústico en vivo “One Live Night” y en 1997, el larga duración en estudio “Shadowlife”, (ahora era el turno de plasmar todas las ideas solistas de George Lynch) que tampoco encuentra una respuesta positiva en el público. En 1998, Lynch se va de la banda por segunda vez, luego de un violento altercado con Don Dokken para reunirse con Lynch Mob y es reemplazado por el guitarrista de Winger, otro virtuoso, Reb Beach, para en 1999 editar el elepé “Erase The Slate”, que lentamente se ha convertido en un disco más y más requerido por los fans. Este año la banda publicó “Live From The Sun”, que captura el sonido en vivo en el Sun Theater de Anaheim California, Estados Unidos y que muestra las capacidades técnicas del nuevo integrante, Reb Beach. Dokken mostró un sólido rendimiento en la gira “Power to the People” junto a Poison, Cinderella y Slaughter y a diferencia de las anteriores bandas se nota la política del grupo de no querer vivir de la nostalgia y seguir produciendo hard rock melódico con elaboradas armonías vocales. Don Dokken, sin perjuicio alguno para su banda, planea editar un álbum solista en una línea más balada.
