Black Sabbath - Era Dio

Considerado por muchos como el "padrino" del power metal, Ronnie James Dio fue el vocalista del heavy metal por excelencia. Dio voz a grupos como Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio y Elf. En 2006 Dio se une a miembros y exmiembros de Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler y Vinny Appice, formando así el que sería el último grupo en el que participaría, Heaven&Hell.

Dio es inconfundible por su ténica y registro vocal, considerando como una de las voces más influyentes y legendarias de toda la historia del heavy metal. En los años 70 comenzó a realizar la corna o mano con cuernos, gesto que popularizaría y acabaría convirtiéndose en el símbolo del heavy metal.

Ronald James Padavona, más conocido como Dio, nació en Portsmouth, Estados Unidos, el 10 de Julio de 1942. Con apenas 14 años comenzó en el mundo de la música cantando y tocando el bajo y la trompeta, formando parte de bandas como Red Caps ,Ronnie and the Prophets y Elf.

Fue telonero de Deep Purple con Rainbow, grupo que dejó para, poco después, en 1979, entrar como vocalista en una de las bandas más grandes de los 70, Black Sabbath. Reemplazó así a Ozzy Osbourne, que había sido despedido del grupo por sus adicciones, lo que generó tensiones entre ellos dos, llegando Ozzy a decirle que le mataría si se atrevía a cantar en directo Paranoid y Iron Man, dos de las canciones más míticas de Black Sabbath.


En 1983 Dio abandonó Black Sabbath (aunque volvería en 1992 para grabar un disco) y fundó su propio grupo llamado Dio con el que debutó con su éxito Holy Diver, el cual consiguió ser oro en el 89.


Aún con su edad avanzada, Dio continuó grabando discos, realizando giras y conciertos. En 2006 se reunió con miembros de Black Sabbath en Heaven & Hell y realizaron una gira mundial entre 2007 y 2009.
